There is something magical about the change from winter to spring at Kenton Eco Estate. After the crisp mornings and earthy tones of winter, the landscape gradually begins to transform. The days become warmer, vegetation starts to freshen and the estate takes on a new energy.
The signs of the season are everywhere. Fresh growth brings colour back to the landscape, wildlife becomes more active, and the warmer weather invites us to spend more time outdoors. For those who live here, it is a wonderful reminder of the privilege of being surrounded by nature and witnessing these seasonal changes first-hand.
A Little Zebra Makes a Big Entrance
One of the most exciting signs that spring has arrived is the birth of a beautiful zebra foal right here on the estate.
With tiny legs, a brand-new set of stripes and a natural instinct to stay close to Mum, the little foal has already captured the attention of residents and visitors alike.
Watching a new life find its feet is a special experience, particularly when it happens right on our doorstep. From those first tentative steps to exploring its surroundings alongside Mum, these moments offer a glimpse into the everyday wonders of living alongside wildlife.
And now, there is one important question left… What should we name our newest little resident?
We have been asking our community for name suggestions and have loved seeing the creativity coming through. Keep an eye on our social media channels as we share more of this little one’s journey.
The Kenton Rhino Rising Weekend
Spring also saw Kenton-on-Sea come alive with four days of sport, conservation and community as part of the Kenton Rhino Rising weekend.
The programme featured a swimming event, a cycle race, padel, and a fireside chat with Junior Springbok captain Siphosethu “Esethu” Mnebelele, before culminating in the much-anticipated Kenton Rhino Run.
The Rhino Run proved to be a tremendous success, attracting more than 1,000 participants. Runners and supporters came together to enjoy the beautiful Kenton landscape while supporting an event that celebrates wildlife, conservation and an active outdoor lifestyle.
With routes passing through Kenton Eco Estate, participants had the opportunity to experience the estate from a different perspective, surrounded by the natural environment that makes this part of the Eastern Cape so distinctive.
The impressive turnout made this year’s Rhino Run a memorable highlight and reflected the incredible enthusiasm surrounding the Kenton Rhino Rising weekend.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, supported the events and helped make the weekend such a success.
Growing with Nature
While the landscape is changing with the seasons, there is plenty happening on the development side of Kenton Eco Estate too.
There is currently a great deal of construction activity across the estate, with several new homes progressing and new projects getting underway.
The new home being built in Bushbuck Lane is making good progress, with the new owners anticipated to take occupation by Easter next year. In Puffback Pasture, we are delighted to welcome new residents who have recently moved into their new home, which was completed just a few weeks ago.
Another home in the same street is also progressing well, with the owners hopefully moving in before Christmas. A new home has recently been completed in Lourie Lane, while a project in Oribi Close has just broken ground.
There is also plenty of exciting planning happening behind the scenes. According to Fluid Architects, a number of new plans are currently in development, which are expected to be submitted for approval over the course of the next few months. Majority of these new homes are being built for people who intend to live on the estate permanently and make Kenton Eco Estate their home.
This is an exciting reflection of the community taking shape. People are not simply investing in property; they are choosing to put down roots, become part of the estate’s community, and embrace a lifestyle closely connected to nature.
With new homes being completed, residents settling in and further projects on the horizon, there is a real sense of momentum across the estate. Yet, alongside all this activity, the natural environment remains at the heart of what makes Kenton Eco Estate home.
A Season to Look Forward To
From the first signs of spring and the arrival of a tiny zebra foal, to a four-day celebration of sport and conservation and the steady progress of new homes, the past few months have brought plenty to celebrate at Kenton Eco Estate.
It is a season that perfectly captures what makes the estate unique: nature, community and a place to call home.
As spring unfolds, we look forward to seeing what the months ahead bring with more wildlife moments, new neighbours, completed homes and many more memories made at Kenton Eco Estate.
