Our little black impala is thriving!
Black impalas aren’t a separate species – they’re a rare colour variation of the common impala, caused by a genetic mutation that gives them their striking dark coat. This beautiful coat is a result of melanism, where the animal produces an excess of pigment, making its fur appear black rather than the usual reddish-brown you’d expect in most impalas.
While impalas are common across Southern Africa, all-black individuals are exceptional and a real treat to spot in the wild! Not only do they share all the graceful traits of regular impalas, like impressive leaping ability but they also carry this unique genetic twist that makes them unforgettable.
Moments like these are a wonderful reminder of the thriving, protected natural environment we are so proud to be part of.
Sadie, the lost dog
On New Year’s Day, a dog, later named Sadie was found alone at Kenton Eco Estate, with no owner able to be traced. Garry Bull and the estate team acted swiftly to ensure her safety, providing food, shelter, and immediate care. She was examined and vaccinated by Kariega Vet Clinic, confirming she was healthy and ready for a new beginning. In the meantime, Sive Tyibilika kindly opened his home to Sadie while a permanent placement was arranged, with Garry continuing to advocate for her every step of the way.
Sadie has since found her forever home in Boknesstrand with her new owner, Gary, where she is settling in beautifully and enjoying her new routine. Special thanks go to Ian Booth for generously sponsoring her annual vet care, ongoing treatments, food, and pet insurance. Sadie’s journey is a heartwarming reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together – residents and supporters who stepped in, shared her story, and ensured she was given the loving future she deserves.
School beach walk
Bushwillow School in Kenton on Sea offers a unique educational experience that is sensitive to each child’s learning style and needs and they visited the Kenton Eco Estate for their much anticipated end-of-term beach walk.
